Fair in Mátészalka

In July 2006, we got up very early to set off for the fair in Mátészalka. It was exactly 3:15 a.m. How do I know this? Because I took a photo of the clock before we left. We had a long journey ahead of us-more than 300 km.

Meeting our friends

We went by truck, as always. As previously agreed, two of our friends who ride motorcycles were also coming to the Mátészalka fair. However, they were riding high-powered motorcycles, such as Goldwings. So it’s no wonder that we didn’t see them very often.

The Mátészalka fair

Location

Like most fairs, it was held in a rather remote location. The Mátészalka fair was also held somewhere outside the city. It wasn’t easy to find without GPS. And the heat of the previous days suddenly changed: it started to rain and became very cold. So cold that we had to buy warm clothes for ourselves at the neighboring clothing market.

We were disappointed by the size of the market because we were used to large markets. Maybe it was because of the bad weather? Maybe this was the normal size for a market here?

The goods

There wasn’t much, but I did capture a few interesting items, though.
For example, a cage full of white ermine.

Our friends under the tree

I don’t think it feels very good to ride a motorcycle in the rain. Well, that’s how they have to get home now!

We quickly looked around at everything.

On the way home via Kunmadaras

The rain had stopped, but it wasn’t even noon yet. After a brief discussion, we decided to check out the 24-hour Reliability Veteran Motorcycle Race in Kunmadaras. We set off separately.

Old American car

I don’t know where we were, but suddenly we noticed an old American car. We stopped and admired it.

Ruined villa

On the next stretch of road, we found another sight: an unfinished villa. I wonder if it was ever completed or if it collapsed in the last 20 years.

Kunmadaras

Sometime in the afternoon, we arrived in Kunmadaras, and stayed there until evening.
